Ok, so the theology isn't all that sound. And it’s on Oprah (no I don’t watch Oprah, it was sent to me) :). So overlook those things and take in the stark reality that this man addressed. It is a powerful testimony demonstrating that man's days are numbered and we must all make the best of them and utilize our time for the Glory of God.
This is sad... and yet people still have the nerve to say that you can't get a good education at home! Teens losing touch with common cultural and historical references
By Greg ToppoUSA TODAY
Big Brother. McCarthyism. The patience of Job.
Don't count on your typical teenager to nod knowingly the next time you drop a reference to any of these. A study out today finds that about half of 17-year-olds can't identify the books or historical events associated with them.
When Christie relayed the story below to me it filled my heart with so much joy! Fatherhood is the most amazing and wonderful thing in the world (second only to being a husband :)! To see such sweet and precious little ones being conformed daily unto the likeness of Jesus Christ - it truly blesses my heart!
"After being exceptionally obedient today, (I'm speaking of Davina here, not myself... :) ) and almost always answering with “yes ma’am, I will obey with a happy attitude!” after being asked to do things, I went to Davina's room after tucking her in and thanked her for having such a sweet, happy, obedient spirit today. She replied, (smiling from ear to ear) “mommy, how ‘bout we pray that Jesus will help me to do that tomorrow?” I prayed, and immediately after the "amen," she said, “mommy, let’s pray again and ask Jesus to help me do that EVERY day!” Oh how she warms my heart!!"
Hmmm... I'm sure when the Democrats hear about this they will want to ban it along with water-boarding.
"A recently unclassified report from the Pentagon from 1998 has revealed an investigation into using laser beams for a few intriguing potential methods of non-lethal torture. Some of the applications the report investigated include putting voices in people's heads, using lasers to trigger uncontrolled neuron firing, and slowly heating the human body to a point of feverish confusion - all from hundreds of meters away." WASHINGTON - Conspiracy theorists take note: the myths surrounding one of the United States' oldest and most enduring national symbols are about to be debunked...if you believe the government, that is.
Two of my sister in-law's (Stephanie & Hannah) entered a Valentine's day contest over at Biblical Womanhood and they have been selected as one of the top four finalists. So, take a minute and go over and vote for their entry! :)
I am nearly 21 and I'm still enjoying the blessings of living in my father's household. My days are spent helping my mother, and learning to be a keeper at home.
I have not always been a single young lady in desire of God's best. A year ago God began to do a great work in my heart. I was dating a young man, and after having dated two and-a-half years, we had informally decided to get married.
At this time God began to bestow on me His mercy and wisdom revealing to me that the relationship was not honoring to Him, He asked me to come back under my father's authority and trust that He would supply all my needs. My God has never failed me and I praise Him that He protected me in those years of dating!
Though I emerged from the relationship physically pure, I was grieved that I had given my heart so openly to one that God did not have for me. It has been such a blessing to see how God has used my mistakes to bring me to a place where I fully appreciate the joy of submitting to my father, and given my father the desire to lead me and guard my heart.
It is because of our desire to encourage single young women in the Lord, that my sister Hannah and I are planning a Valentine's dinner for fourteen young ladies. It's going to be held on Thursday, and I'm looking forward to seeing what God's going to do through the time of fellowship.
My plans for the evening are as follows: The girls have been instructed to dress as formally as they desire. When the girls arrive I have planned an icebreaker game since few of the girls know each other. Since my theme for the evening is focusing on Godly women in the Bible or History, I will tape names on the back of each girl as she arrives, instructing her that she must find out who she is. When she discovers her identity, she will read about the history of the woman.
We will then proceed to an elegant candle-lit dinner of lasagna, salad and bread; followed by a dessert of chocolate truffle cheesecake and peanut butter pie.
After dinner I plan to share my testimony with the girls, and give them an opportunity to tell us what God's doing in their life at this time. Then we will let the girls that wish to, take part in blessing us with their talent on the piano, followed by a time of praise and worship.
To conclude the night, we plan to watch segments from Return of the Daughters. It is my prayer that as each girl leaves with a rose in her hand, she will also leave with a love in her heart towards our loving Savior, and embrace Him as the Prince of her life!
I'm really dumbfounded... what can I add to this? If this doesn't prove the total and complete inability of the public school system to provide basic elementary education, then nothing will.
As a warning to those of you who say that I shouldn't home educate my children because of socialization - be prepared for me to blatantly and unashamedly accuse you of being unloving towards your children. Because I will, and because it’s true.
OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- John Corcoran graduated from college and taught high school for 17 years without being able to read, write or spell.
"As a teacher it really made me sick to think that I was a teacher who couldn't read. It is embarrassing for me, and it's embarrassing for this nation and it's embarrassing for schools that we're failing to teach our children how to read, write and spell!"
Shouldn't the Navy take these types of things more seriously and prevent them from happening? i.e. shoot the guy down before he buzzes the aircraft carrier!? I mean what if this guy was a terrorist and wanted to bomb or crash into the ship? At 200ft it would have been pretty hard to stop him.
I'm not sure that I would covet President Bush's 'Conservative' endorsement - it's kind of hard to push that argument when he has been far from lacking as a conservative.
An Atlanta police recruit shot and killed a teen boy who tried to rob him at gunpoint early Saturday, authorities said.
The 14-year-old allegedly had confronted the recruit while he was in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Parkside Crossing apartments, in the 4200 block of Jonesboro Road in Forest Park.
If you are older than 40 the name Benjamin Spock is more than familiar. It was Spock that told an entire generation of parents to take it easy, don’t discipline your children and allow them to express themselves. Discipline, he told us, would warp a child’s fragile ego. Millions followed this guru of child development and he remained unchallenged among child rearing professionals. However, before his death Dr. Spock made an amazing discovery: he was wrong. In fact, he said: We have reared a generation of brats. Parents aren't firm enough with their children for fear of losing their love or incurring their resentment. This is a cruel deprivation that we professionals have imposed on mothers and fathers. Of course, we did it with the best of intentions. We didn't realize until it was too late how our know-it-all attitude was undermining the self assurance of parents.
Oops.
Something just as momentous, in my opinion, just happened in the evangelical community. For most of a generation evangelicals have been romanced by the “seeker sensitive” movement spawned by Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago. The guru of this movement is Bill Hybels. He and others have been telling us for decades to throw out everything we have previously thought and been taught about church growth and replace it with a new paradigm, a new way to do ministry.
I am doing some last minute Presidential candidate research trying to decide for myself who I will be voting for tomorrow. So here is my assessment of Governor Mike Huckabee.
My main issue with Gov. Huckabee is his openly populist, which is ultimately based on the Marxist philosophy that gave us the USSR and modern communism, campaign and beliefs. His own campaign manager, Ed Rollins, described Gov. Huckabee as a “very very populist, strong candidate”. Should that tell us something right there?
Here are some of the issues in which Gov. Huckabee introduces populism to the debate.
"I'm Mike Huckabee, and I approved this message, because I believe most Americans want their next president to remind them of the guy they work with — not the guy who laid them off." (emphasis mine)
What is he saying? That employers who have to lay people off are bad? The very people that give economic prosperity to our nation are now the people whom Americans don’t want to vote for? Sounds a lot like populism to me – Rich vs Poor, Boss vs Employee, Bourgeoisie vs Proletariat. It’s a page right out of the Marxist/Lenin handbook – create animosity between the “classes”.
Or what about this?
“The most important thing a president needs to do is to make it clear that we're not going to continue to see jobs shipped overseas, jobs that are lost by American workers, many in their 50s who, for 20 and 30 years, have worked to make a company rich, and then watch as a CEO takes a $100 million bonus to jettison those American jobs somewhere else. And the worker not only loses his job, but he loses his pension.” (emphasis mine) – from MSNBC.com debate transcript
What is he saying? That government should start regulating executives salaries and bonuses? Someone else proposed something like this a while back after Bob Nardelli’s infamous $210 million dollar severance package. That person was Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, who held hearings on executive pay because “The justification for these really very, very large amounts of money being given has been that they are performance- driven, when it's given as a consolation prize for bad performance, then the whole justification is called into question.” Full story here. So is Gov Huckabee of the same belief system as ultra-liberal Barney Frank? I agree that executives should be held accountable for their actions, but it does not involve the government. Shareholders can do a well enough job on their own.
“To me, life doesn’t begin at conception and end at birth.” (emphasis mine)
This is socialism at its core. In other words, ‘government should be involved with people from the “womb to the tomb”.
“I believe that every child should have the opportunity for a quality education that teaches the fundamental skills needed to compete in a global economy” - MikeHuckabee.com
So, it’s the government’s job and duty to provide education to everyone? Doesn’t exactly fall into the list of “founding father doctrines” does it? As an aside, he is the only Republican who has ever gotten an endorsement from the NH NEA affiliate – full story. Click here to see Fred Thompson chastise him for it.
“I advocate policies that will encourage the private sector to seek innovative ways to bring down costs and improve the free market for health care services.” (emphasis mine).
What is this about? Since when did ANY private healthcare issues become issues for the President of the United States? I am glad that he opposes federally mandated healthcare, but his stance is far from that of a true conservative.
All in all, I believe Mike Huckabee is a Christian man (that holds many Christian societal beliefs) who has allowed the liberalism of our day to dictate his governmental beliefs and ideologies. Would he be a better President than McCain, Hillary, or Obama? Probably. But at the end of the day conservatives would be just as disappointed with him, if not more so, than they are with George W. Bush. Mike Huckabee does not truly believe in conservatism as a worldview or belief system, he merely uses some points of conservatism to meet the needs of his ‘populistic’ belief system.
