"AquaPenguins - technology-bearers as autonomous underwater vehicles
Like its natural archetype, the AquaPenguin from Festo has a hydrodynamic body contour. Its elegant wing propulsion and its head and tail sections, which can be moved in all directions, allow the robotic penguins to manoeuvre in cramped spatial conditions, to turn on the spot when necessary and – unlike their biological counterparts – even to swim backwards.
The bionic Penguins are designed as autonomous underwater vehicles that independently orient themselves and navigate through the water basin. They are supported by a 3D sonar system which, as with dolphins, allows communication with their surroundings and with other robotic penguins – for example to avoid collisions.
An entirely new feature in robotics is the torso that can move in any direction. The bionic Fin Ray® structure, derived from the tail fin of a fish, has thus been extended into three-dimensional space for the first time. The pengins' torso design can be used in automation in a flexible tripod configuration, thereby opening up new fields of application in mechanical handling technology."
His ability to lie and flip flop is unparalleled. Well... that might be a stretch... he does have quite a bit of competition over in the Democratic party ;)
I wish that my fawning friends in the GOP would have admitted this when John McCain was pushing it during his presidential campaign. I can't tell you how many of them were pushing this just because McCain was... even though they knew it was anti-freedom and anti-capitalist.
At an electricity substation on a bleak industrial estate north of Paris a masked union militant is preparing to deprive a neighbourhood of power.
His colleague is outside, dragging nervously on a roll-up cigarette while keeping a lookout for police or security guards. “Get a move on,” he says. “And then let’s get out of here.”
A switch is pulled down, the door of the sabotaged transformer is locked and the two activists — employees of EDF, the French state electricity supplier — drive off.
In their wake hundreds of houses and a handful of businesses in Montigny-lès-Cormeilles are left without electricity for much of the morning.
It was the second time in a week that blackouts had hit the Paris region as striking gas and electricity workers adopted radical tactics to support their call for a 10 per cent pay rise and an end to outsourcing of jobs.
They are denounced as industrial saboteurs by the Government and face disciplinary action and prosecution, but say they are determined to press ahead with what they portray as a struggle against free-market forces.
After failing to prevent the partial privatisations of EDF and GDF, the gas supplier, they believe that the tide has turned in their favour because of the recession.
Redundancy plans have caused violent protests in private sector companies, left-wing students have blocked universities and unions are planning a demonstration on Labour Day. “There is a risk of revolution,” Dominique de Villepin, the former prime minister, said.
For Stéphane Miliadis, a representative of the Confédération Générale du Travail union at the EDF plant in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, near Montigny-lès-Cormeilles, it offers a golden opportunity.
“The Government is losing control,” he said. “So now is the moment to push back the capitalist logic which has crept into the company.”
"But what do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution."
--John Adams, letter to H. Niles, February 13, 1818
But not to the rest of use "Rightwing Extremists"! I don't think this is going to go over very well... apologizing for ONE of the offended parties isn't good enough. This report offended most of America in some way. It was so broad, so wide sweeping that very few American's weren't included as Rightwing Extremists by at least one of their categories.
Time to move boys! :) I love the numbskull comment at the end about the DHS person who wrote the Rightwing Extremist report.
"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that."
Also, they tie Tea Parties to the Rightwing Extremist report from DHS. And totally misrepresent the report... the report does tie "conservatives" to the report. Maybe not in name, but definitely in ideology and beliefs!
Incredible! I didn't blog about it, but about a month ago Missouri Law Enforcement released a report in which they cited most of the American population as "potential threats". I did blog a followup story on a Campaign for Liberty worker illegally detained by TSA. Now the federal government has decided to get in on the act and has released an "Intelligence Assessment" of "Rightwing Extremism", in which they state that military veterans are potential threats to the government! Also in it they pretty much declare war on the political ideology of federalism, one of the founding principles of our country. These statist communist are really starting to feel comfortable up there and are starting to let lose their attacks on everything good and right.
“* (U) Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, ejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”
Here they are pretty much saying that anyone who believes in federalism (i.e. states rights – hmm wonder if they consider Rick Perry a potential threat? :) or are anti-abortion or do not believe in amnesty for illegal aliens. Again, just like the MIAC report last month, they paint such a broad picture that they pretty much encompass almost anyone who is a “conservative”.
I also noticed that “we” have our own department in the DHS, which is the one that put out this report.
(U) Prepared by the Extremism and Radicalization Branch, Homeland Environment Threat Analysis Division. Coordinated with the FBI.
Now take a listen to Roger Hedgecock interview a DHS representative where he cannot even state that the government will NOT send people tape people at Tea Parties, or whether the department considers Tea Party organizers “extremists”!
"I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state. That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”
APRIL 9--A Florida woman who used a live Internet video feed to monitor the interior of her home was shocked yesterday when she saw two men burglarizing her residence in real time. Jeanne Thomas, 43, was seated at her office desk when two strangers appeared in her living room (the intruders got into Thomas's Boynton Beach house through a doggie door at the rear of the home, according to the below probable cause affidavit). Thomas, who set up the live video stream after her home was burglarized last October, immediately called 911 to report the burglary (click here to listen to her conversation with a police operator). Cops raced to her home and arrested the two men inside the house: Curtis Williams, 20, and Steven Morales, 19.
For those of you who know my wife, you certainly understand that I "married up". :) Today is our anniversary, and I want to take a moment to honor my wife, my companion, and my best friend. She is my confidant, encourager, strength and right hand. Without her, you no doubt wouldn’t even know me. It is because of her that I have succeeded in many areas of life. It is because of her love and devotion that I have three of the most precious children in the world.
God has blessed me tremendously in my life, all of which I am undeserving of. The first of which is Salvation through Jesus Christ. Second only to that is the blessing of my wife. She has truly been a blessing to me in far more ways than I could ever hope to describe… and for that I am eternally grateful! Thank you Christie! tú es mi vida para siempre!
Here is a quote from Daniel Rogers (son of martyr John Rogers) on marriage. In it I think he encapsulates many of the ways that marriage is good for us personally, and for society around us.
Marriage is the Preservative of chastity, the Seminary of the Common-wealth, seed-plot of the Church, pillar (under God) of the world, right-hand of providence, supporter of laws, states, orders, offices, gifts and services: the glory of peace, the sinewes of war, the maintenance of policy, the life of the dead, the solace of the living, the ambition of virginity, the foundation of Countries, Cities, Universities, succession of Families, Crowned and Kingdoms.
Daniel Rogers, Matrimonial Honour: or, A Treatise of Marriage (London: Thomas Harper for Philip Nevil, 1642), p. 7.
Incredible! I didn't post the story about the MIAC report last month because there was too much to go into, and I didn’t want to be profiled by the government as a “potential threat”. But this stuff is starting to get crazy folks! Those of you who think that the Ron Paul/Campaign for Liberty folks are nuts anyways so it might be ok for the TSA to do this to them... don't be deceived, they will be after you next. Freedom is on the decline, and fascism is on the rise!
A few weeks ago I posted this clip where officials are stating that 75% of all black market weapons in Mexican. Well, it turns out that isn't true according to Wayne LaPierre with the NRA. And now also according to this Fox news report.
"I think that a new world order is emerging, and with it the foundations of a new and progressive era of international cooperation. We have resolved from today that we will together manage the process of globalization. To secure responsibility from all, and fairness to all. And we have agreed that in doing so we will build a more sustainable, a more open, and a fairer global society." - British PM Gordon Brown
Neil Cavuto takes it to the sponsor of this bill, Florida Rep. Alan Grayson (D). This guy is totally off his rocker... he seems to think that the Secretary of the Treasury is the end all of everything and should have UNLIMITED power!
Make sure you watch all the way through... Neil gets really hot under the collar :)
The hostile crowd that confronted a lone Modesto police officer and his police dog early Sunday threw glass bottles at the officer, and one suspect punched him in the face, according to details released by Modesto police Tuesday.
Witnesses and police say some in the crowd taunted the officer as they closed in on him, shouting, "Shoot me, shoot me!" when he drew his weapon. Someone in the crowd said, "You know you're not going to make it out of here," said Sgt. Brian Findlen, the police spokesman.
Some witnesses said the face-off was "horrifying" and "like something you would see on 'Cops,' " the TV show that showcases confrontations between police and criminals.
Residents described their neighborhood as "scary," especially after dark. Gang members and regular people live side by side, they said, and neighbors fear retaliation if they call police.
In Sunday's incident, the officer couldn't call for backup during the five to eight minutes he was alone with the crowd because the radio on his belt was broken during the struggle, said Findlen. About a dozen officers responded after 911 calls from neighbors. - Click here to read the full story
"Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time, who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done, if we are always doing."
- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Martha Jefferson, 5 May 1787
